It’s been a few years since I had a good spa treatment, so when I got the opportunity to have a luxury spa treatment I jumped at it.
A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of receiving a complimentary Detox and Glow Treatment at Neal’s Yard Remedies Spa on King’s Road. The treatment consists of a Body Polish, Infrared Sauna, Deep Tissue Massage and a Facial.
The Spa itself is relaxing and gorgeous, with tea light lanterns placed all around and spacious treatment rooms. It’s so simple but well put together. Once I was escorted to my treatment room, I was given my robe and time to prepare for my body polish scrub down. The therapist asked me how I would like to feel and after i explained that I want to feel soft and smooth she used Neal’s Yard’s Rose and Geranium Body Polish mixed with their Aromatic Massage Oil. It smelt absolutely delicious.
Once she was done scrubbing me down, I was taken to the sauna room where she explained that I should take a shower and completely wash off all of the body polish and then sit in the sauna until the timer timed out. After my shower (in which I used their Rose and Geranium Shower Gel to rid my body of all the polish granules) my skin felt baby soft.
If you’re curious as to what the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna is, well basically an infrared sauna uses infrared heaters to emit infrared light which is experienced as radiant heat which is absorbed by the surface of the skin. Whereas, traditional saunas heat the body by the conduction and convection of heated air and radiation of heated surfaces in the sauna room. One must be careful not to rest on the infrared vents to prevent one from burning their skin. Studies have shown that traditional saunas only omit 3% of toxins via sweat while infrared saunas omit 17% of toxins from the body via sweat.
After sitting in the sauna for 20 minutes I hopped back into the shower to refresh myself. This prepared me for my full body deep tissue massage. Deep tissue massage is known to be effective for pain relief, pain management, the release of tension and stiffness from muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints, it breaks down old scar tissue, improves flexibility, suppleness, posture, mobility and physical appearance among other things.
The treatment ended with a full facial which consisted of cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, extraction, toning, facial massage and moisturising. The things that stood out most during the facial was the steaming and extraction. Steaming is good for warming up the surface of the skin thereby making it more receptive to treatments such as masks and serums. The benefits also include enhancing circulation, helping to remove toxins through increased perspiration, softening debris inside your pores for easier removal and increasing relaxation.
Overall the treatment combined procedures to rid the body of toxins and leave your body feeling refreshed and re-tuned.
I give this treatment 5 out of 5 stars for leaving me feeling like I was walking on clouds and giving me the best sleep I’ve had for a long time.
